What Is Low Volume Injection Molding?

Low-volume injection molding produces real plastic parts — using real molds and real production resins — in quantities from 50 to 10,000 pieces. It’s not 3D printing. It’s not mass production. Furthermore, it’s the stage where your design meets manufacturing reality for the first time.

Industries served by our small-batch injection molding services

Our low-volume injection molding services are widely used across multiple industries, providing reliable support for product development, prototype validation, and small-scale production.

Fabricación de piezas de automóvil
Precision Plastic Components for Automotive Applications

Core problem we solve: Automotive suppliers and Tier 2 manufacturers frequently need low volume injection molded parts for pre-series validation, regional variants, or replacement components — quantities that fall below the MOQ threshold of large-volume molders, but still require the same dimensional rigor as production parts.

Primary applications:

  • Interior structural brackets and clip systems
  • Electronic control unit (ECU) housings and connector bodies
  • Sensor housings requiring EMI shielding inserts
  • Under-hood components in PA66-GF or PPS for thermal resistance

What we deliver differently: Parts are produced under the same dimensional control framework as mass production — CMM-verified, with full FAI documentation. Material traceability is maintained per lot.

Controlled Manufacturing for Medical-Grade Plastic Parts

Core problem we solve: Medical device developers face a specific challenge: regulatory submissions and clinical evaluations require real injection-molded parts — in small quantities — produced under documented, repeatable conditions. Most volume-oriented factories either won’t accept the order size or can’t provide the process documentation required.

Primary applications:

  • Diagnostic device housings and cartridge bodies
  • Lab instrument enclosures and fluid-path components
  • Handheld device shells requiring tight parting line control
  • Surgical tool handles in biocompatible resins (PC, PP, PA)

What we deliver differently: Material certifications, resin lot numbers, dimensional inspection reports, and mold maintenance records are provided as standard — not as add-ons. For low volume plastic manufacturing for medical devices, process documentation isn’t optional.

Fabricante de electrónica
Functional Enclosures and Precision Components for Electronics Products

Core problem we solve: Electronics product teams operate on compressed development cycles. Between engineering sign-off and mass production launch, there’s a window where custom small run plastic parts are needed for EMC testing, retail packaging fit checks, and factory line trials — in quantities and timelines that standard tooling schedules can’t support.

Primary applications:

  • Device enclosures with integrated snap-fit and EMI shielding features
  • Connector bodies and PCB housings with sub-0.1mm critical features
  • Thermal management components in filled PA or LCP
  • Thin-wall cosmetic panels requiring Class-A surface finishes

What we deliver differently: Our CNC plant works in parallel with mold fabrication to produce any metal inserts, shielding elements, or jig components simultaneously — compressing the overall schedule without routing work to external suppliers.

Robótica y almacenamiento de energía
Flexible Low Volume Manufacturing for Fast-Moving Hardware Programs

Core problem we solve: Robotics and energy storage hardware evolves rapidly through development cycles. Design changes between iterations are common — which means tooling must either accommodate modifications or be replaced without destroying the project budget. The manufacturing partner needs to move at the same pace as the engineering team.

Primary applications:

  • Robotic joint covers and cable management housings
  • Battery module end caps and cell spacer components
  • Structural polymer frames for collaborative robot arms
  • Energy storage enclosures in flame-retardant UL94 V-0 rated resins

What we deliver differently: Aluminum tooling modifications — adding ribs, adjusting wall thickness, repositioning gates — are handled in-house within 24–48 hours. When the design changes, the tool changes with it, on the same timeline your engineering sprint requires.

Why choose Dimud's low-volume injection molding?

Dimud is committed to providing customers with low-volume injection molding solutions that combine speed, quality, and cost-effectiveness, helping projects reach the market faster.

paso 1

Manufacturer, Not Middleman

Dimud owns its mold factory, CNC plant, and electronics facility. No third-party handoffs, no coordination markups. The engineer reviewing your DFM is in the same building as the machinist cutting your tool.

paso 2

Built for Low Volume

At high-volume factories, a 500-piece order waits. At Dimud, low volume injection molding is what our scheduling, tooling capacity, and engineering workflow are built around. Your 300-part run gets the same process discipline as any large program.

paso 3

DFM Before Metal Gets Cut

We review wall thickness, draft angles, sink risk, weld line placement, and gate position — before quoting. Clients who’ve paid for tooling revisions elsewhere know exactly what this step is worth.

paso 4

Data, Not Assurances

Mold design files before machining. Dimensional inspection report before production approval. Material certifications before shipment. Your mold stays documented and ready — parameters from your first run carry forward to your tenth.

PREGUNTAS FRECUENTES

one stop solution

The minimum order quantity is 50 pieces, and the upper limit for a single production run is typically 10,000 pieces. We recommend determining the specific quantity based on mold amortization costs and your market demand; we will provide a cost estimate for your reference when issuing a quote.

Costs consist of two parts: one-time mold cost + unit production cost. The mold cost depends on the part’s complexity and the mold material; the unit cost includes materials, machine time, and post-processing. Our quote will list these two items separately to help you evaluate the overall cost-effectiveness.

Provide a 3D file in STEP format + a 2D drawing (PDF or DWG) with key tolerances and surface requirements annotated to initiate the quote and DFM analysis. Formats such as SolidWorks and IGES are also accepted.

The mold belongs to the customer. Ownership transfers to the customer once the mold cost is settled. Dimud is responsible for storage and routine maintenance; if you need to transfer the mold to another factory, we will provide complete mold documentation and machining parameters.

Aluminum molds have a lifespan of approximately 1,000–10,000 cycles and are not suitable for mass production. If your plans include future production expansion, we recommend informing us before mold production begins—this will directly impact the choice of mold materials and cost structure.

We will sign a mutual NDA before any file transfer. All CAD files and technical documentation are stored on an internal restricted system and are not accessible to any third parties. For clients in industries with higher confidentiality requirements, such as medical and semiconductor, additional IP protection clauses can be included in the contract.

We will issue a comprehensive dimensional deviation report, analyze the root cause, and submit a corrective action plan for your approval before incurring any additional costs. Modifications resulting from mold issues are covered under warranty; we will only proceed with production after you confirm the corrective action plan.

Changes made before tooling and machining typically incur no additional costs. Once machining has begun, we will assess whether modifications can be made by adding or removing material—removing material is relatively simple, while adding material involves welding and is more complex. We will provide a separate quote for each change and proceed only after your confirmation.

Yes, these regions are our primary export markets. Samples and small batches are shipped via air freight (DHL/FedEx/UPS), while mass-produced parts can be shipped via sea freight. We support various trade terms such as EXW, FOB, and DDP, which will be determined through negotiation based on the order.
